Lawo award BCI as “Distributor of The Year 2009”
Singaporean-based supplier Broadcast Communications International (BCI) may have only started out in business in 2007, but their high sales figures in south-east Asia has merited them with the distinction of being Lawo’s distributor of the year 2009. The team headed by MD William Ng also distribute a range of products designed to complement full turnkey solutions for installing in radio and TV broadcasting studios. “I didn’t imagine that our small territory could have ever challenged for this award, let alone win it,” enthused Mr. Ng. “We're extremely happy that we have been recognised for our continuous hard work installing Lawo products in the market. Although we have completed numerous projects including the AMP Malaysia, Mediacorp Lush and Singapore Media Academy, I feel that the Thai Army Channel 5 sale was the most satisfying. For this, we equipped their studio facilities with three Lawo mc2 56 digital mixing systems, which are connected to a Nova73 HD Digital Routing System.” Sales director Colin Tan was responsible for negotiating this sale and he offered a further comment. "Technical discussions started in late 2008 and after several meetings, Army TV was convinced that Lawo were the best products to meet their budget and requirements. The flexibility offered by the Nova 73 HD and ease of use of mc2 56 console perfectly complement Army TV daily operations."

BCI re-designed and upgrades Safra Radio’s MCR with Lawo Router
Established in 1994, Singaporean radio broadcaster SAFRA Radio recently underwent an extensive technical upgrade. The project’s main focus was the Main Control Room (MCR), although the ground work began in 2006 when SAFRA Radio’s first Lawo systems were installed on account of their simple and intuitive user interface. The zirkon mixers that were installed have allowed the DJs to access their controls in full view, whilst the technicians could manage the more complex controls and settings.
Lawo’s modular plug-in cards are based on the DALLIS I/O system, providing an expandable system that will meet any new requirements that may arise during the MCR upgrade. BCI has now supplied and installed SAFRA Radio with a fully integrated broadcast system comprising of a Lawo Zirkon mixer in both the Power 98 and 883 JIA FM studios. A third has been installed for redundancy in the recovery studio with the input and outputs linked to the Nova 17 router in the MCR. Programmable sources from each studio are linked to the MCR via three lines with the MADI connection serving as the main line, whilst the AES/EBU and analogue inputs serve as redundancies.
The MCR, together with two production suites, have been installed with Lawo TB12 talkback panels. The broadcast studios’ talkback has been integrated into the Nova 17 router, allowing each studio to communicate to and from the MCR. Technicians can now monitor and control the entire signal chain via Lawo’s Vistools GUI interface from the studio to the transmitters from a single workstation, which has drastically decreased the troubleshooting process as everything is within reach from a single location. This phase of the four year project has completed SAFRA Radio’s plans in creating a fully digital broadcast system.
